Math Intervention Teacher - Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School

Eugenio María de Hostos Charter School is in its 23rd year of operation as a K-12 school, serving over 900 students. EMHCS offers a dual language program in grades K-2 and a Spanish Language Arts program for grades 3-12. Summary of Position:
An Intervention Teacher provides students with direct instructional support using the Response to Intervention Framework under the supervision of the Principal and or designated school administrator. The student intervention services require the use of EMHCS adopted resources within a structure informed by student achievement data. The Intervention Teacher is accountable for promoting standards-based literacy and math instruction across the content areas using a multi-tiered approach and evidence-based interventions.
EMHCS’ Core Components for RTL include evidence-based intervention, universal screening, classroom progress monitoring, staff professional development, collaboration, and parent support. The Intervention Teacher will use data to inform appropriate evidence-based strategies to improve students’ academic success of core instruction.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide students with direct intervention support services that promote access to the core instruction
  • Teach and coordinate Tier 2 & 3 intervention for target students
  • Facilitate the management and interpretation of data necessary to develop, implement and evaluate Tier 1, 2 & 3
  • Keep teachers, staff and parents informed regarding the status of RTI services
  • Provide non-evaluative classroom observation and feedback, modeling and other supportive assistance necessary related to the implementation of the RTI process
  • Participate in the Multi-Tiered Student Success Team meetings to assist in the coordination of intervention services for students receiving intervention services.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor and CEO.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly grade level meetings
  • Attend professional development as required

  • Successful experience working with a diverse English Learner student population
  • Teaching experience at more than one grade level
  • Experience implementing the RTI / problem –solving model

Education / Experience:

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Five (5) years of appropriate teaching experience
  • New York State Teacher Certification
  • Spanish a plus
  • Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience as a teacher
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers and their capabilities
