Position: Special Education Teacher
Salary: $50,000 - $62,000
Summary:
The Special Education Teacher’s role in the classroom is to co-plan and co-deliver instruction. He/she should be differentiating, instructing and modifying the academic program for the students for which he/she is assigned.Reports to Coordinator of Special Services. Exempt or Non-Exempt Exempt Salary Grade and Location Salary is highly competitive and based on degree and certification 10-month in person position Insurance and 403(b) is offered to full time employees with cost based on coverage that is chosen All applicants must receive fingerprint clearance prior to starting employment.
Education, Experience and/or Valid New York State Teaching Certificate in the subject area and ESSA “highly qualified” status.
Certification or License Requirements:
Previous teaching experience in a public or private school, preferably in an urban setting or experience working with groups of children and youth within the candidate’s special skill area preferred.
Competencies:
● Collaboratively plan and support with the implementation of instructional units that are aligned to the NYS Common Core Standards and the curriculum of the Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts
● Work with the teacher to use data from assessment sources to monitor student progress toward meeting academic targets
● Provide a nurturing, supportive and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourages student responsibility and creates community.
● Collaborate with classroom instructional team which can include the teacher, an Arts Integration (AI) teacher, ENL teacher, etc.
● Serve in a position under the direction of a teacher, who has the direct responsibility for the design and implementation of education programs and services
● Works with teachers to address individual needs of students
● Coordinates, plans, meets and co-teaches with other teachers to meet program requirements of Renaissance Academy
● Providing an inviting, exciting, innovating learning environment
● Works with students individually or in small groups, under supervision
● Assists in classroom management

● Informs, advocates and complies with all Federal and State laws regarding students with disabilities
● Uses appropriate assessments to screen students in need of special education services and support
● Plans and monitors implementation of individualized educational programs (IEPs) for students identified with special learning needs ● Provides individualized and small group instruction according to student IEPs
● Analyzes data from assessments of student work in collaboration with their teams to determine which teaching strategies need to be expanded and which need to be replaced by more effective ones
● Has knowledge of effective classroom management practices motivating special education
